The Internet has been chaotic this past week when a new report by Science Advances revealed that the quality of women’s eggs does not decrease with age. Instead, it is men’s sperm that has a biological clock.
According to the study, women’s eggs do not accumulate more DNA mutations as they age, men’s sperm does. This means that the older men get, the higher the risk of genetic errors. The research further shows that the increased sperm mutations with age can increase the chances of passing on health conditions to children.

Even though women face declining egg quantity over time through their menses, the study emphasizes on the fact that their egg quality at the DNA level stays stable.
Various health social media pages and podcasts shared these findings which elicited different reactions from online followers especially women. Most women breathed a sigh of relief stating that the pressure of fertility will no longer be on women alone. Others remarked on the fact that it is now on men to find partners when they are younger to ensure they have healthy babies. Other women joked about the fact that older women in their thirties and forties can now be intentional about dating younger men if they want healthy babies.

“I think the pressure on women is finally going to reduce a bit and balance up, just as it’s supposed to be”, Dr. Christabel Akinola captioned on Instagram. She encouraged her viewers to blow the horn far and near. “May the truth travel as far as the misconception”, she wrote.
