Grenada is grappling with shock and sorrow after an autopsy confirmed that former Senator and customs officer Neilon Franklyn died from poisoning.

The findings, released on Monday, September 8, by leading Trinidadian pathologist Professor Hubert Daisley, showed that the 28-year-old suffered multiple organ failure caused by toxic substances in his system. Early examinations suggest ethylene glycol, a chemical found in antifreeze, may have been involved. Samples have been sent abroad for advanced testing to determine the exact poison.

Franklyn’s death has cast a shadow over the nation. Once hailed as a rising political star, he was appointed to the Senate in 2022 at just 25 years old. After resigning in 2024, he joined the Customs Department and recently graduated from St. George’s University.

News of the poisoning has stirred public outrage and fear, with residents demanding justice and questioning the circumstances surrounding his final hours. Many believe he may have unknowingly consumed the lethal substance through a drink.

The case has taken on greater urgency as Franklyn is reportedly one of three customs officers who died in recent months, raising speculation of a possible connection. The Royal Grenada Police Force has not yet commented publicly, but investigations remain active.

As Grenadians continue to mourn, the death of Neilon Franklyn has become more than a personal tragedy. It is now a matter of national concern, with calls growing louder for answers, accountability, and justice for a young leader whose life was cut short too soon.
