Manchester United defeated Tottenham 2-0 at Old Trafford in the Premier League in their greatest performance of the 2022–23 campaign.
Spurs put up a lifeless and indifferent performance, losing 2-0 in a match that could have been much worse. Tottenham took just nine shots compared to United’s 28, with the home team’s relentless blitz evidently paying off right away.
Both goals were scored in the second half, with Bruno Fernandes scoring in the 69th minute and Fred scoring in the 47th minute.
Antonio Conte, the manager of Tottenham, decided to revert to the old Son Heung-min and Harry Kane up front strategy, depending on rapid breaks to create goal-scoring possibilities. It’s a strategy that has worked for the London club in the past, but United boss Erik Ten Hag deployed a deep midfield to stifle the quick attacks.
The win is a very positive sign for Ten Hag, who joined United this year. While the club currently sits in fifth place in the Premier League, they are proving particularly potent giant killers, so far beating Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool.
The outcome is more alarming for Conte and Spurs. Both the home team’s strong performance and the visitors’ numerous errors contributed to United’s victory.
