Africa continues to grapple with governance challenges part of which is corruption. Corruption in African governments undermine development and public trust.

These include:

  • State capture by elites – state policies and laws by elites, politicians & private interests to benefit themselves
  • Large-scale embezzlement – misappropriation of public resources & funds by officials
  • Bribery for public services – undercut laws, regulations, awarding contracts, to speed up public services
  • Nepotism/ Patronage networks over competency
  • Money Laundering – channeling illicit funds through complex transactions to hide their source
  • Vote rigging – imposition of leaders at the expense of the voters’ choices. The recent high stakes prosecutions, and judgements on these vlog are a step in the right direction.

Africa’s future is now, and only when justice prevails will it be a clear signal to those that hold public offices, that the price of corruption is too high, and not worth the risk.
