Lionel Messi scored a stunning free kick in added time to earn Paris Saint-Germain a 4-3 comeback win over Lille on Sunday and lift them five points clear at the top of the Ligue 1 table.

PSG, who have struggled for consistency since returning from the World Cup break, extended their advantage over Marseille, who visit Toulouse later Sunday.

Kylian Mbappe opened the goal for PSG after eluding two Lille players and finishing a superb solo effort. Soon after, Neymar made it two, racing into the area to meet Vitinha’s layoff.

Lille, though, pulled one back from through a Bafode Diakite header, and Jonathan David then equalised from the spot after Neymar had been stretchered off with an ankle injury.

The visitors subsequently seized a 3-2 lead via Jonathan Bamba, but a late double from Mbappe, followed by a free-kick from Lionel Messi in stoppage time, saw PSG go five points clear at the top of Ligue 1 – and maybe save manager Christophe Galtier’s job.

The highlight of the game was when Neymar was taken off on a stretcher following a clash with Benjamin Andre, in which he appeared to injure his right ankle .PSG may now have to face Bayern Munich in their second leg of the champions league without Neymar.
