In a post shared on Instagram by the Recording Academy, Davido expressed his excitement about becoming one of this year’s voting members. “I’m honored to be part of the Recording Academy community, and I look forward to the voting process,” he said. The announcement has been met with excitement across the continent as fans hope he will soon take home the prestigious award.

The ‘Unavailable’ singer now joins a growing list of African artists who are part of the voting members, including Kenya’s Eric Wainaina, Nigeria’s Jidenna, and Shakar El, who are all part of the class of 2025 voting members.

The Recording Academy annually expands its voting membership in order to ensure that the Grammys remain fairly represented of the ever-evolving musical landscape. Each year, new members from different professional contributions are invited to share their perspectives and represent different voices in the industry. To qualify to be a voting member, industry gurus must have technical or creative credits on a minimum of six released tracks, projects or albums.

Understanding the importance of how our voices are heard and participating in the Grammy Award process is a game-changer. I’ve learned how voting empowers you to have a say in what is considered and voted on, each award season,” said Davido. This membership now gives the four-time grammy nominated artist the ability to help decide who takes home the trophies.
