President William Samoei Ruto commissioned the Elburgon Housing Estate, located in Molo Constituency, Nakuru County, on Monday. This marks the third group of people to benefit from the government’s Affordable Housing Programme.
The project, constructed on a 4.45-acre site, consists of 220 housing units, including studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom apartments, targeting lower and middle-income earners. It is part of the State’s broader housing agenda aimed at reducing the national housing deficit, boosting home ownership, and stimulating local economic growth.

During the commissioning, the President said the government’s housing programme is not only focused on providing dignified and affordable homes, but also on creating employment opportunities. He noted that thousands of jobs have been generated across the construction value chain, from contractors and artisans to suppliers of building materials.
The Elburgon estate is strategically located adjacent to St. Clare Girls Secondary School and within close proximity to St. Clare Dispensary, Molo Technical and Vocational Center, and the Nakuru–Njoro–Mau Summit Road.
The project has already been connected to key infrastructure, including water, electricity, and internal access roads, paving the way for immediate allocation and occupation of the units under government housing allocation frameworks such as Boma Yangu.

Local leaders said the project has significantly benefited the local economy by creating business for transporters, hardware suppliers, and food vendors who served construction workers. They noted that housing projects of this nature have a ripple effect on both the formal and informal sectors, especially among youth and women-led enterprises.
With payments from just KSh 3,494 a month, the project tackles Nairobi’s 200,000-unit annual housing deficit, expanding supply and easing rent pressures for Kenyans.

The government has maintained that the National Affordable Housing Programme is central to its wider socio-economic development agenda, which includes job creation, urban regeneration and economic transformation. With several other housing projects nearing completion across various counties, more commissioning ceremonies are expected in the coming months.
