In a landmark moment for Middle East diplomacy, world leaders convened in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, for the signing of a comprehensive ceasefire deal aimed at ending the prolonged conflict in Gaza.
The summit, hosted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, brought together U.S. President Donald Trump, representatives from Qatar, Turkey, and the European Union, among others. The gathering symbolized a unified global commitment to restoring peace and rebuilding one of the most war-torn regions in the world.
The agreement, titled the “Trump Declaration for Enduring Peace and Prosperity,” establishes a structured ceasefire and outlines plans for Gaza’s reconstruction and governance. While Israel and Hamas were not physically represented at the ceremony, both had approved the terms through indirect negotiations facilitated by Egypt and Qatar. The signing marked the first major international peace accord on Gaza in years, renewing hope for an end to recurring cycles of violence.

Under the deal, Hamas released 20 Israeli hostages, while Israel freed nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, including several held without trial. Humanitarian aid is set to resume immediately, with Egypt coordinating the delivery of food, medical supplies, and rebuilding materials into Gaza. The agreement also includes provisions for the creation of a transitional Palestinian governing body, backed by international monitors, to oversee the reconstruction phase and maintain security.
During the ceremony, President Trump hailed the accord as “a turning point for peace,” calling on both sides to move beyond decades of hostility. President el-Sisi praised the global unity behind the deal, noting that “true peace begins when the world chooses compassion over conflict.” Qatar and Turkey reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that reconstruction efforts reach civilians swiftly and transparently.

Despite the optimism, others caution that the real test lies in implementation. The absence of direct signatures from Israel and Hamas raises concerns about the deal’s long-term stability.
Still, the moment in Egypt offered a powerful image of hope – world leaders standing together, determined to give Gaza a new beginning. If upheld, the ceasefire could mark the most significant step toward lasting peace in the Middle East in decades.
